It’s basically The Goonies meets the Universal Monsters, but with a sharper edge and a lot more attitude. The kids feel like real kids, sarcastic, brave and just reckless enough to take on Dracula, the Wolfman, the Mummy and the Gill‑man without blinking. The creature effects are surprisingly strong for a movie like this. It’s the kind of movie that sticks with you because of how you first saw it: a random TV showing that pulled you in with monsters, one liners and that unmistakable 80s vibe. The Monster Squad is scrappy, funny and full of heart, the kind of cult classic that feels even better when you rediscover it years later.
