- cultfilmliker27. mars 2026Approached the film as if it was all new to me even though I know quite a bit about it (and have seen contemporary counterparts) and on that front, it is genuinely awe-inspiring What a perfect project for David Lynch lol his direction is so perfect for this film. The sound and editing are so in sync. I thought the opening was an odd, cheesy allegory but nah that’s the actual story! lmao Love that he couldn’t understand how to answer questions his entire life until Hopkins taught him to nod and then taught him to speak in two minutes Big Tod Browning vibes! Would love to hear Lynch on Freaks! The end reminded me a ton of Fritz Lang’s M lol John Hurt’s ability to display boyish wonderment under all of that makeup is mad impressive

- mickerdoo2. januar 2026A very important message of judging people by their character not their appearance. Had me choked up a couple times. Hurt is amazing.
- flavo433. januar 2026The Elephant Man is a profoundly moving historical drama that captures the unlikely and transformative relationship between Joseph Merrick and Dr. Frederick Treves. Presented in stark black and white, the film beautifully evokes the atmosphere of Victorian London, giving the story a timeless, almost noir‑like quality that deepens its emotional impact. At its core, the film explores dignity, compassion, and humanity. Merrick’s journey—from exploitation and isolation to safety, friendship, and a measure of peace—is portrayed with remarkable sensitivity. The contrast between his tragic circumstances and the kindness he eventually receives creates a narrative that is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. The performances are exceptional, grounding the story in emotional truth rather than sentimentality. Every scene feels purposeful, building toward a portrait of a man who endured unimaginable hardship yet retained grace and gentleness. The Elephant Man remains a powerful, empathetic film that lingers long after it ends.
