- AngusMcNutz22. august 2025Holds a special place in my heart being among the first sci-fi mainstays that I watched growing up before I was aware of how clunky Emmerich's writing is and continues to be. Things just kind of happen and most scenes are fueled by the 90s style "We've gotta do the thing" pacing. Points to set and costume design though. Roland knows what he likes.
- Jeremiah22. mai 2026Pretty sure I saw this one in the theater. Movie is a vibe with fun concepts and satisfying conclusions. Perfectly cast. Our mains and even a few others have character arcs (to a degree at least). I like that Jaye Davidson took a million dollar payout (after asking for a million thinking hed never get it) on this movie and just peaced out of making movies forever cause he didnt like making them. I never have seen anything else Stargate beyond this. Not saying I never would but if I never did, I'd be 100% happy enough with this. It's standalone nature is perfect. It's a shame that 90% of Roland Emmerich's library is disaster movies, cause when he stepped out of the box most of those shined pretty well.
- pipanni16. mars 2026A great idea with a not so great execution. It's still an enjoyable movie, but so much was left unexplored. A huge franchise of never ending tv shows was born from this movie, thus proving how much was left untouched. For example: after the adventure ends all they think about is going home. Hello? What about all the other distant alien worlds we can now visit?!
- Richard19. oktober 2025Saw this one in the cinema when it came out and the concept alone had me hooked: a giant ring buried in Egypt that turns out to be an alien teleportation device? Sold. Later grabbed it on DVD, then upgraded to Blu-ray when I wanted the desert vistas and alien temples in full detail. It’s Roland Emmerich doing what he does best, big ideas, big sets and a script that occasionally forgets how humans talk. But the ambition? Massive. James Spader plays the nerdy linguist with heart, Kurt Russell brings military grit and Jaye Davidson floats through the film as Ra with eerie elegance. The production design leans into ancient Egyptian iconography with sci-fi flair, golden masks, pyramid ships and glowing tech that looks like it was built by a civilization that loved drama. The pacing is pure ’90s: “We’ve gotta do the thing!” urgency, exposition dumps and slow pans over sand dunes. But it works. The score swells, the stakes rise and the final showdown delivers. I loved the crazy idea and execution. It felt like someone mashed up Lawrence of Arabia, 2001 and Flash Gordon, then added a dash of military bravado.
