- Rick Masters-1 d.Cross-dressing, sexual innuendo, gangsters, booze and Marilyn Monroe with her tits basically hanging out.. this film was clearly determined to make the censors sweat. Monroe is magnetic, and the whole thing is remarkably bold, cheeky and incredibly risqué for 1959!! What a riot.

- cultfilmliker21. juli 2025“Some people got no respect for the dead” Tony Curtis looks just like Robert Downey Jr. in this (full disclosure: my mom disagrees) Loved Marilyn Monroe’s performance. Some of the comedy was a little too much (and so much sexual harassment lmao) but everything Marilyn did was gold. Especially when she made Tony Curtis look like Austin Powers. Also, I respect Ana de Armas’ performance more now Lemmon’s tango scenes had me hootin’ and hollerin’. And the henchman’s voice is so damn weird and funny

I don’t think modern comedies know how to make people laugh anymore and I can’t remember the last time one genuinely made me LOL. But! Some Like It Hot is still pure gold 67 years later. Billy Wilder proves exactly why timing and wit never age. This is a classic screwball turned into high art. A fierce farce and an enduring treasure. Jack Lemmon’s hysterical giggle and elastic panic are a master class in physical comedy while Tony Curtis plays the romantic fool with perfect control. Marilyn Monroe is, of course, effortlessly luminous but beyond that, she’s warm, silly, and genuinely funny. What I love about Wilder is how he builds jokes out of people getting trapped in their own messes. Every gag comes from characters who can’t escape what they’ve started as each scene closes in on them. It’s cruel and kind at the same time… which is hilarious. “I’m a man.” “Well, nobody’s perfect” I swear, that final line remains one of the best in film history. After all the disguises and panic and romance, the film ends on a punchline that shrugs at convention and says none of this needs to be fixed. Nobody’s perfect, but Billy Wilder just might be. What a genius and one of the best directors and screenwriters of all-time.
