I watched this movie back in 81 and I watch it whenever I feel like I need a good laugh like now and I will say that the media doesnt know good movies when they see them. This will have ya laughing and enjoying the sexy scenes. And after growing up to miss mother goose JULIE ANDREWS, its a wild change to see what she does on here. 5Stars

S.O.B. (1981) — Hollywood Bites the Hand That Feeds It Blake Edwards’s S.O.B. is a wonderfully nasty Hollywood comedy made by people who know exactly where the bodies are buried—and have decided to dig them up for laughs. Richard Mulligan is terrific as Felix Farmer, a successful producer whose latest musical has bombed so spectacularly that he responds with repeated, increasingly absurd attempts at suicide. His salvation comes when he realizes the picture might be saved by turning his wholesome wife, movie star Sally Miles, into something scandalous. Since Sally is played by Julie Andrews, the joke becomes almost indecently perfect. Edwards takes the woman associated with Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music and turns her immaculate public image into the centerpiece of a satire about an industry that will sell absolutely anything if it thinks there is a dollar in it. Andrews is game, funny, and much tougher than her reputation suggests. William Holden, Robert Preston, Robert Webber, Robert Vaughn, Shelley Winters, and Larry Hagman populate the movie like survivors from several different generations of Hollywood, all of them circling the same carcass. The film is uneven, overlong, vulgar, and occasionally cruel—and those are partly its virtues. Edwards isn’t pretending Hollywood is populated by lovable eccentrics. These people are vain, desperate, frightened, greedy, alcoholic, sexually reckless, and terrified of becoming yesterday’s news. Yet beneath all the cynicism there is affection. Edwards hates Hollywood the way only someone who has loved it can. S.O.B. is a poison-pen valentine to the movie business: bitter, bawdy, excessive, and often very funny. Hollywood may eat its own, but Edwards at least has the good manners to serve them with champagne.

One of this old guys favorite movies. It's a scathing review of Hollywood, the film world, celebrity life and all that comes with it. It's also dated as heck. The cast is an unbelievable mix of well known and up and comers of the time. So some jokes might not land, but jeez, 40 years later a lot still do! But, the main reason to watch this movie is the absolutely amazing camaraderie between a group of men who see their friend slip into mania and more.... I adore their friendship and wish I still had friendships that was similar.
