Jim Backus as the Father: Jim Backus, known for his comedic roles (like Mr. Magoo), plays Jim Stark's ineffectual and emasculated father, a crucial representation of the generational conflict. Nicholas Ray's Direction: Nicholas Ray was known for his films dealing with social issues and alienation, and Rebel Without a Cause is considered one of his best. Dean's Post-East of Eden Performance: East of Eden (1955) was Dean's first major film role. Rebel Without a Cause was released shortly after, further cementing his status as a screen icon. Six stars
