- A gripping historical drama that renders the mechanics of colonization brutally clear. The film follows the Palestinian revolt against British rule while mapping the slow, deliberate machinery that precedes it. Laws and curfews under the guise of protection and safety, and a propaganda engine working hard to sow support for a rising Zionist project. It paints a stark portrait of how land and autonomy are taken through policy, narrative, and force. Watching the cycle of sanctioned cruelty repeat itself across history is as infuriating as ever.
- “ثورة حتى النصر” 90 years later and not a fucking thing’s changed. Well, other than Palestine being a shadow of its former self size-wise (roughly 20% iirc) Fuck the British and fuck Zionism (hilarious to get to type this in response to a film produced by the BBC and BFI) Watched via Letterboxd Video Store Currently Ranked #1/82 in 2026 Ranked Added to The Non-English Niche (even tho maybe half is in English…)
- Not a masterpiece for sure, but a very important film that shows the history of Palestine before Israel was founded. The people there already foresaw what was going to happen to them and revolted against it, albeit unsuccessfully. So many parallels between how the British imperial forces behaved back then and how the IDF behave today.
- A historical allegory that wonderfully presents a small chunk of the beginnings, both artistically beautiful and heart-wrenching at the same time. The story tries to weave different characters together but the character development itself becomes too long and not very spectacular. A good watch nonetheless.
- Palestine 36 is a riveting movie despite the anti-Jewish bias. The Partition obviously was a deeply wrenching experience for Palestinians although the movie doesn’t portray the reality that Jews and Arabs lived in the area in relative peace to centuries. The movie also glosses on over the reason Polish and Czech Jews were moving to the Middle East. Still worth watching to experience the Palestinian side of history.
