Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and Event Horizon (1997) both push men to their limits in the face of forces that defy control, one through kinetic desperation, the other through metaphysical collapse. Ethan Hunt races to stop the world from tearing itself apart; Captain Miller simply tries to hold his together while drifting inside a ship that has already gone to hell. Hunt moves with purpose; guided by instinct, loyalty, and near-impossible odds. His body breaks, but his faith in people doesn’t. Miller, by contrast, begins with command and ends with surrender, watching his crew succumb not to failure, but to memory sharpened by madness. One is tested by betrayal and gravity; the other by guilt and gravity that bends reality. The Final Reckoning is about surviving the fallout. Event Horizon is about becoming it. In one, you run toward the danger to save the world. In the other, you realize the world has already ended and you brought it with you.

think it was OKAY but wish it could've been better for the finale of Mission Impossible franchise

I really wanted to trust Ethan Hunt one last time but I just can’t get on board with this. In fairness, this is certainly one of the most impressive bloated vanity projects I’ve ever seen, but it’s still just too messy and absurd to justify itself. Still, the stunts are, as always, absolutely mind blowing. Tom Cruise has got to be certifiably insane but it’s kinda worth it for his contributions to cinematic history. I wish that this film didn’t feel like an snl skit parodying the MI franchise most of the time. I wish Gabriel was even a little more complex than a potato. I wish Ethan Hunt didn’t have a full blown transformation into the messiah. But even with all the many complaints I have about this film, the worst part is that this film drags and I was bored for much of the runtime. It’s not the farewell I would have liked from one of my most beloved franchises, but it has its moments. Thank you for your service Mr Hunt.

Tom asked us to trust him one last time and you better. The first half demands your patience before it catapults you into the best sequences this franchise has to offer. I don’t think there’s a more tense and jaw-dropping moment than Ethan going into the submarine. Half an hour of silence, which is louder than any form of dialogue one can conjure — I was stress-eating my popcorn while leaning forward the whole time because I couldn’t believe this SOB had done it (again). That goes without mentioning the awe-inspiring plane sequence. It’s so unbelievable and a testament to this franchise’s (Tom’s) willingness to take the hardest and longest path to entertain us. In a time when we have “the entity” everywhere making us complacent and lazy, you can count on Ethan Hunt to remind humanity of what we’re capable of. Sure, his supposed final journey can be a bit over bloated and messy but when something like this is created with the purest intentions, that’s irrelevant. I sobbed, I smiled — I had a wonderful human experience.

After the screening, there is a sense of calm closure to a series that has spanned 30 years of jumps, chases, and explosions. There is something satisfying about it - the finale truly brings a chapter of action cinema to an end. At the same time, what proves “impossible” in this installment is satisfying the viewer, as the franchise’s characteristic lightness and self-aware humor give way to pathos and solemnity. The result can be heavy-going; at times, the film feels weighed down by its own ambitions, as if it had forgotten that this series worked best as pure popcorn action. Compared to the first part of the Reckoning duology, this installment feels less fresh and less impactful, despite its great final-scale spectacle. Ultimately, it remains a solid, visually impressive send-off for a franchise that has defined spy action cinema. It is also undeniably a series that encapsulates Tom Cruise’s career - so much so that Ethan Hunt feels like his natural alter ego. And it is hard to fault him: he is clearly still fully committed, pushing forward at full speed, without holding anything back.

Too high of stakes, too many characters, too much exposition, too much nostalgia, and most notably not enough stunts. Takes an hour and a half for the movie to wake up and remember what this franchise is. All the fun from the previous movies is nowhere to be found here. There are 2 incredible action set pieces in this movie, but the drudge you have to sit through to get to them is tedious. I think Dead Reckoning set this movie up to fail, the story just got too big and bloated to handle. This is really going to test audiences with its slow pace and how self referential this film is.

Watched first-day first-show in IMAX, blockbuster ending to the MI franchise.

Some truly excellent action sequences with a fairly underwhelming and forced story linking them together. Knowing what you’re getting into, it’s still very impressive and worth watching; but lacks the emotional intensity of the earlier entries. Too many characters, too much time spent on beats that ultimately don't matter.

Say what you like about Tom Cruise, but he makes damn good movies!

First half of the movie is struggling to start, second one copies older movies (plane chase scene)
