Even the film’s title plays into its genre-blending nature. On the surface, the synopsis makes it sound like a teen comedy: a young Boston stockbroker, on the run from the mob, hides out in his little cousin’s small town and accidentally enrolls as a high school student. But the film leans more toward a dramatic thriller with romantic undertones and occasional comic relief than a straight-up teen comedy. That balance helps remind the audience that life is fragile, while also making the movie more enjoyable for older viewers. The pacing is spot-on, and the film does a great job balancing the two identities of its main character. At times, he gets caught up in his alias, but the story never lets the audience, or the character himself, forget that danger is still lurking around the corner. If it weren’t for the rise of cable television and video rentals, many viewers might never have discovered this gem after its theatrical run. The film’s soundtrack also plays a subtle but memorable role, thanks in part to Boy George, Pretty Poison and Felix Cavaliere. So, if you’re a fan of Jon Cryer or ’80s movies in general and want something with a little grit, this is the one for you.

He gets caught in a gun battle and must flee. He ends up hiding out as a student in a high school and must adjust to how teenage life has changed. The bad guys find him and he fights them in the high-school gym.
