The world seems to be coming to an end, teeming with the vestiges of a human presence. Cat is a solitary animal, but as its home is devastated by a great flood, he finds refuge on a boat populated by various species, and will have to team up with them despite their differences. In the lonesome boat sailing through mystical overflowed landscapes, they navigate the challenges and dangers of adapting to this new world.

Flow is a cute movie. It follows a cat on a journey of survival with no dialogue throughout. Instead, the movie relies on nonverbal communication such as facial animations and animal sounds. In a lot of ways, it reminds me of something like Stray. And like Stray, I enjoyed this movie without ever feeling it will be something that will last long in my memory or I will come back to. As a cat lover, I did really appreciate how lifelike all the different animations for the cat were. You could tell when it was scared, curious, or sad in a way that felt very realistic. It's also beautifully animated, with a variety of scenes feeling like paintings coming to life. The problem is that the story is fairly simplistic and predictable, though a variety of the animals do get tiny little arcs which would have been easy to overlook in such a movie. It's certainly a beautiful movie, but I felt it lacked the emotional weight of something like this year's The Wild Robot.

Very beautiful movie, both in its animation and storytelling. I honestly think the sound design is the winner here, it’s a highly sensorial nature experience, I personally played the movie through the soundbar but I’d imagine headphones or surround sound would be even better. The animals’ physical mannerisms were captured perfectly, and I love that they retained their natural characteristics while displaying human tendencies which is subtly and seamlessly blended in. I found the whole movie to be like a dream, because when you wake up from one, you don’t fully understand it, you can’t grasp the complete meaning but you’ve been deeply effected by the mystery of it all. I was transfixed throughout the entire journey, which was mixed with both engaging drama and ethereal serene moments. All the animal interactions are peculiarly interesting and have something to teach us about ourselves. Most of us crave a straightforward message, but here there’s various metaphorical interpretations to make. While each member of the audience takes their own lessons from this film, they will do it with their hearts full after experiencing this beautiful and terrifying journey. Also I’m now definitely adding capybaras to my list of spirit animals.

Absolutely stunning. Not a single word is spoken throughout the entire movie, but so much is said. Beautiful.

Simply a masterpiece that transcends language. Animals so real that pets are intrigued about the movie. It deserves every award it got during those 2 years. A national treasure of a movie.

This is one of the best movies I have ever seen. I mean best, and I mean ever. The nuance and layering of the plot is mind blowing. The visuals are stunning. The characters are precious jewels fit only for the crown of a great Queen. This is one of the most stunningly beutiful works of art and storytelling I beleive exist or have been produced by human labor. I'm sure you can find the plot elswhere, this movie is well covered and the Wiki page has a plot synopsis, if you like spoilers. I will leave this review by saying the time spent watching this movie was time well spent, and will be a movie I will watch again, and again. Love.

One of the most deeply moving and emotional movies I've ever seen, and no words of dialogue were needed. Best enjoyed with a cat present.

Flow is a beautiful and quiet animation that works primarily through imagery, movement, and rhythm. It almost feels like watching a game - with the sense that each scene flows seamlessly like cutscenes guiding you through a wordless world. It’s an experience that pleasantly stimulates the senses. The film focuses on animal instincts - sometimes raw and literal, sometimes subtly humanizing its characters - capturing the wonder of a post-cataclysmic world where humans are gone. The minimalism of the narrative is probably its greatest strength: the story doesn’t hold the viewer’s hand, but instead invites you to immerse yourself in observation, brief moments of tension, as well as cooperation and interspecies empathy. The film truly moved me and impressed me visually. It’s subtle, contemplative, and at times hypnotic cinema.

Incredibly compelling storytelling that managed to make me care about the characters quickly, and was able to develop them effectively without any spoken dialogue. This film would have been an achievement if created by a major studio, and considering the context behind its creation is practically a miracle. The visuals are stunning, but to be bluntly honest, show their modest origins. I don’t say this as a real fault—character detail quality is about 80% of the way to a ‘real’ big budget film, while the animation quality, ‘voice acting’, and general magic of the film in motion are able to more than push the full effect over the line. It’s very clear that priorities were well-managed in executing this story; by choosing to dedicate limited time and resources towards the complete vision of the film (ie. getting more assets up to 80% rather than chasing down 100% on fewer assets), Flow is able to stretch its legs and allow the scope to grow, resulting in a very captivating world I expect to revisit in my imagination many times. Flow is an incredible achievement, a phenomenal experience, and intimately, lovingly imperfect. It isn’t going to be the most accessible movie to everyone, but for those it reaches, it provides a truly unique experience.
