During its return to the earth, commercial spaceship Nostromo intercepts a distress signal from a distant planet. When a three-member team of the crew discovers a chamber containing thousands of eggs on the planet, a creature inside one of the eggs attacks an explorer. The entire crew is unaware of the impending nightmare set to descend upon them when the alien parasite planted inside its unfortunate host is birthed.

Just the perfect horror and possibly my favorite Sci-Fi film ever. The pacing is masterful. Ridley stretches out each kill to its furthest point of tension. The biomechanical designs by Geiger are impossibly detailed and intricate. And it's just a film that has a slightly slow start but never steps crescendoing until it's very last minute.

A sci-fi classic that unfortunately hasn't aged that well.

We get Sigourney Weaver running around with a flameflower in the world's tiniest pair of panties. Need I say more?

Truly a classic that is so much better than all the rest.

It’s a relentless, claustrophobic horror that mixes science fiction with pure terror. Once it gets cooking, almost every frame is soaked in tension.

A tense tale of exploitation and survival with some of the most gorgeous set design in all of cinematic history. Perhaps the whole ‘guy in a suit plays the alien’ might come across as silly and dated to some but it’s worth looking through all the quiet moments of tension. A score that sits and swells, shadow and light aim to direct and confuse. These all play together so well in the purpose that dreaded unknown is what is coming for you and all hope is lost. Alien is more than a slasher film in space. It’s an unparalleled triumph for its time that defied modern and classic conventions to create a truly unique vision on horror that plays with imagination in a way that it is truly timeless.

Fantastic movie. Had seen bits of it here and there many times on tv throughout my life, but finally watched it properly a couple of years ago. It blew me away. How did they do this in 1979?!

Incredibly made in '79. The sets are incredible. Great camera work and editing. Some effects haven't aged as well. Inventive monster.

I watch this one every year, and it still hits me like the first time. Everything about it just works—the tension, the crew, the way it slowly drags you into this suffocating world. You feel every bit of stress and fear with them, and the pacing gives it room to breathe so the scary moments hit way harder. The design and atmosphere are next level—gritty, claustrophobic, and just plain unsettling. Even knowing what’s coming, I catch tiny details I hadn’t noticed before, and the creature… man, it’s still nightmare fuel. It’s rare for a movie to feel this alive, this sharp, and this terrifying, year after year.

The original that started it all. The beauty of this movie, that gets lost in some of the newer iterations, is that this thing is terrifying. By Itself. There does not need to be a horde of xenomorphs. One will do. Very little screen time for our freaky friend, but like the wind, it’s presence seldom seen, but strongly felt. Any cinema fan should watch this, and frankly I’d be shocked if anyone older than a certain age has not seen this movie. One of the best ever.

Still a good movie. The animatronics are a little dated but great for 1979. Amazing to think this movie is almost 50 years old. It was great to rewatch this classic.
