Honestly, I mostly liked this, but felt like last third was kind of a mess and not all that scary or thrilling. I kind of liked where the film ultimately ends up, but similar to Slingshot (with which I did an airplane double feature), I can’t really say the film was worth watching. Mrs. Davis did it better.

- Scott14. desember 2024I wanted to like this. The idea of an artificial cryptid composed of the worst of humanity is such a fun idea. Or even just a haunted house of our own making. But both of those ideas give way to a most of the movie happening offscreen and what we’re given is not even particularly important to the movie.

Afraid is an average watch, best suited for a mindless evening. Fans of light thrillers or technology-themed narratives may find some appeal here. It might interest those who enjoyed films like The Circle or Anon but with tempered expectations.
