David Lowery tells his story with remarkable patience, using the supernatural less as a source of fear than as a way of exploring grief, memory, and the passage of time. Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara deliver restrained performances that perfectly suit the film's quiet, reflective tone, while Daniel Hart's haunting score reinforces an atmosphere that lingers long after individual scenes have passed. Rather than asking the audience to fear death, the film asks them to consider what remains after it. Its deliberate pacing will understandably test some viewers' patience, but I found myself increasingly absorbed by the film's meditative approach. There were moments where the restraint bordered on excessive, yet I never felt it lost sight of the emotional experience it was trying to create. Instead of chasing conventional dramatic payoffs, the film quietly trusts the audience to sit with its ideas and draw their own meaning from them. Long after it ended, I found myself thinking less about the events of the story than about the emotions they left behind.

It’s not a traditional horror movie. it’s an existential meditation on love, time, loss, and what remains after we’re gone. The stillness is intentional. The silence is intentional. It can get under your skin. The image of the ghost itself, simple and almost absurd at first, becomes heartbreaking as you realize how trapped and powerless it truly is. The film captures grief in a way that feels painfully real. Not dramatic, not loud, but heavy, Beautiful film, and Bravo to Casey Affleck. His performance was moving...
- sav8. april 2026Went into it blind and it was the perfect combo of Skinamarink pacing with A Dog's Purpose storyline. Sad, a bit unintentionally funny at still moments, and sorrowful. Beautifully tragic & slow paced, some shots to me are paced out too long but some needed it to be for that feeling. The neighbour ghost finally letting go & the Pie Scene really got me out of those moments of stillness. I also luv'd the aspect ratio, the closedness of this was very fitting and felt visually suffocated by the grief. They portrayed the mourning & guilt so perfectly even without words, Im not gonna lie I did almost cry. I dock points for that musty mansplaining hippie at the party with big pit stains and the music throwing me out of the story a bit...because I can! Also I WANTED TO SEE THE NOTES BRO! In close, I think this film is very beautifully shot and written, the shots were very well planned and meaningful to the story.
- mizelle721. februar 2026it starts off slow and then tragedy strikes. After that this movie actually went straight downhill. I got to about 29 minutes before i realized that I had just actually spent 5 minutes watching her eat a pie while a man in a sheet with eyes cut out watched her. Not worth my time continuing with something that wasn't very realistic so was unable to connect to the characters.
