- jackmeat27. april 2026My quick rating - 5.2/10. Sometimes a flick can tell you exactly what you’re in for right from the opening frame, and 57 Seconds wastes absolutely no time doing just that. We open on a plane already in full crash mode, with our narrator politely introducing the passengers like we’re being handed a seating chart for the upcoming disaster. It is one of those “start at the chaos, then rewind to explain how we got here” openings that screams, don’t think too hard about this. At the center of the madness is Franklin Fausti, played by Josh Hutcherson, a blogger who stumbles into the orbit of tech visionary Anton Burrell, played by the always commanding Morgan Freeman. After thwarting an attack on Burrell, Franklin finds a ring that allows its wearer to travel exactly 57 seconds into the past. It is a fun sci-fi hook, and honestly, there is some genuine potential in the concept. The problem is what the movie decides to do with it. Instead of immediately diving into high-concept thrills, Franklin basically starts using time travel like it is a cheat code for theft and forced swipe rights. Before the revenge plot against the pharmaceutical company responsible for his sister’s death really gets going, he is already using the ring for selfish reasons, including nudging romantic outcomes in his favor. It makes it incredibly difficult to look at him as some heroic underdog when his first instinct is essentially, what if I used science fiction to improve my dating odds? Not exactly the most inspiring protagonist move. That is really where 57 Seconds stumbles the most. When you have such a complex storyline about revenge, corruption, and messing around with time, there are just so many absurdly stupid decisions made that it seems as if common sense must have been the very first one sacrificed on that altar. Franklin, the hero of the story, doesn’t really come across as one. In fact, I was waiting all through the film to see him get smacked upside the head. Still, if you approach this as a bit of innocent sci-fi fun, there is enough here to make it an okay watch. The premise alone keeps things moving, and Morgan Freeman does what Morgan Freeman has done for decades - show up and make a flawed movie look far more respectable than it probably deserves. His presence alone keeps the whole thing from completely falling apart. On the other hand, Josh Hutcherson gives us the bare minimum. It’s adequate enough, yet the whole notion of having him play the lead in an action-thriller doesn’t seem like such a good idea. The movie isn’t anything daring or clever, resorting to convenient plot elements and actions existing to keep the script moving. My advice? Give 57 Seconds a shot, but do not overthink it. The moment you start pulling at the logic, the whole thing unravels faster than the timeline itself.

This movie grabbed my attention right away because of its unique idea and the way it mixes science fiction, suspense, and personal emotion into one story. Even though the plot involves time manipulation and big twists, the movie still feels grounded because it focuses on how one decision can affect everything around you. What I liked most is that it takes something mysterious and makes it personal. It is not just about going back in time for fun. It is about regret, choices, and what someone would do if they suddenly had the power to rewrite their life. That is what made the movie so interesting to me. The cast does a great job carrying the story. Josh Hutcherson brings a lot of heart and intensity to his role. His character feels real because he shows vulnerability, frustration, and determination in a way that makes you care about him. You can see how much the past weighs on him and how badly he wants to fix the things that hurt him. His emotional reactions make the story stronger. Morgan Freeman adds wisdom, calmness, and mystery to the film. Every scene he is in feels important because he brings so much presence. His character adds depth to the story and makes the movie feel bigger than just a science fiction thriller. The scenes between him and Josh Hutcherson are some of the best in the movie because their chemistry makes the emotional moments more meaningful. The concept behind the story is fascinating. The idea of having fifty seven seconds to undo something creates tension that runs through the entire movie. It makes you think about how much can change in less than a minute. The movie does a great job showing how tempting that power can be. It also shows how dangerous it becomes when someone starts using that power too casually. Every time the main character hits the reset point, you feel the weight of the choice he is making. It brings suspense, but it also brings emotion because each decision affects the people around him. The pacing is quick but balanced. The story moves fast enough to keep you engaged, but it still gives enough time to explore the emotional side of the characters. The tension builds with every decision, and the stakes keep rising as the story goes on. The movie uses suspense to raise questions about morality, fairness, and responsibility. It asks whether rewriting the past makes things better or creates more problems. I liked that the movie does not treat the ability like a fun trick. It treats it like a burden. The visuals fit the tone well. The lighting and style give the movie a modern but grounded look. The scenes that involve time manipulation are clear and easy to follow, which makes the story more enjoyable. The soundtrack adds intensity and helps build momentum during the more emotional parts. The editing keeps the tension alive without making the story confusing. What made the movie hit harder for me is how it explores regret and pressure. The main character carries a lot of emotional weight, and the movie shows how hard it is to live with the desire to change what has already happened. It is a story about pain, motivation, and the dangerous side of second chances. By the time the movie ended, I felt satisfied and impressed. 57 Seconds delivers suspense, emotion, and originality. It completely earned its 4.5 out of 5 rating from me.

- Edd Beesley22. mars 2026This low-budget mid-concept film is an ok way to spend 90 minutes if you've nothing better to do and you've already seen all the other films. Sadly it's not quite cheap enough to be laugh-out-loud funny about it, and nor does Freeman elevate it to a an intelligent, thought provoking, "I'll forgive the inadequacies" affair. If you're still not convinced, go and watch Oblivion or Futureman instead, you'll have a better time with the stars in those.
