- Crimsonblack28. februar 2026This is an amazing film....glad I watched it, but I never want to see it again. It's a harrowingly frank portrayal of trench warfare shot in only one or two shots. I would include a warning: viewer discretion is advised, it's frankly upsettingly realistic, and might be too much for some viewers.
- qmechan23. januar 2025The cinematography's stunning And the nearly one-shot shows such cunning But simply, at the core This film shows a war That's won through the effort of running
- Chris28. oktober 2024“I hoped today would be a good day. Hope is a dangerous thing.” - Colonel MacKenzie George Mackay is incredible and it is a beautifully shot film. It just felt like every other war story. I really wanted to like this and had been looking forward to seeing it. Just a big miss for me.

- mattyb3517. februar 2026Fantastic movie that's all there is to it. Acting, cinematography, soundtrack A+.
- AngusMcNutz18. april 2025The true masculine urge to crawl through the trenches and slowly bleed out with your homies. All jokes aside, I find the main appeal of Sam Mendes' films is the sense of balance he's able to cultivate; this film being the most exemplary display. War films usually dump attention to pacing and structure for emotional gut punches over and over. As seen here, its entirely more effective to land a couple direct haymakers rather than a barrage of jabs.
- Jamie Talbot27. oktober 2025Really really good movie. The ‘one-shot’ take of this movie is what really put it all together and made it feel realistic and made you feel like you were there. Even though it wasn’t shot in one take, it was really clever cinematography and editing to make it feel like it was just one continuous shot. I found it quite funny to learn that the longest scene shot was only 8 and a half minutes long. My favourite scene was when the town was completely lit by fire and flares. It felt so beautiful.

- Modern Media HD Group15. mars 2025Absolutely stunning 1917 was gifted a full fat native 4K digital intermediate, capping off source material that was shot at even higher resolutions, and perfectly rendering this oftentimes visually perfect feature. Detail is outstanding, lapping up every little nuance of the dirty, damage-strewn battlefront, the dust-and-dirt-covered visages and tattered uniforms. Messy and occasionally almost horrific, the presentation revels in the textured intricacies, further coming alive superbly thanks to the added assistance of not only HDR and WCG but also Dolby Vision and HDR10+
- cyberbillp15. februar 2026One of the best movies I've ever seen.
- Sebker14. februar 2026Just watch it
- makdelart5. februar 2026It's incredible to watch: the scenographic depiction of the era, absolutely masterful master shots, great music; but at the same time, a bit of pathos, a bit of propaganda... Nevertheless, after the screening, I feel like I've come back from a journey through time.

- Fam.14. desember 2025The horrors of war are presented in a very direct way. Makes you think...
- Mike Martins29. september 2025Sam Mendes’ 1917 is a technical marvel—a World War I drama shot to look like one continuous take, immersing viewers directly into the chaos of the trenches. It’s visually stunning, tense, and at times breathtaking. Roger Deakins’ cinematography deserves every bit of praise it received, with long tracking shots that place you right in the mud, smoke, and horror of war. But for all its craft, 1917 feels like it’s missing something deeper. The plot—a simple “deliver the message or thousands will die” mission—sometimes comes off as more of a video game quest than a layered narrative. The characters, while sympathetic, aren’t fleshed out enough to leave a lasting emotional mark. It’s a movie you admire while watching, but less one you carry with you afterward. That lack of heart and character development is what holds it back. It’s an extraordinary technical achievement, but the story feels thin compared to other war epics. Verdict: Gorgeous to look at and skillfully directed, but somewhat hollow at its core. A solid 3 stars.
