The small-town setting and mysterious atmosphere work well at first, and there’s a certain charm to the old-school TV horror style. Jimmy Smits and Marg Helgenberger give decent performances, and the story has some interesting ideas, even if it doesn’t always stick the landing. The pacing can be slow, and the effects haven’t aged well, but there’s still enough here to keep it watchable—especially for Stephen King fans or lovers of retro sci-fi. It’s flawed, but kind of fun in its own weird, dated way.

Onder de grond bij een klein stadje in New England vindt Bobby (Marg Helgenberger) in de bossen achter haar huis een mysterieus object dat een groene gloed verspreid. Ze raakt al gauw in de ban van de krachten van het object en begint met het uitgraven ervan. Vanaf dat moment vinden er vreemde en huiveringwekkende gebeurtenissen plaats en raken de dorpelingen stuk voor stuk in de ban van het object. Bobby's vriend, de alcoholist Jim (Jimmy Smits), die gekweld wordt door zijn angsten, wordt ongewild de laatste hoop van het dorp en haar inwoners.
