- ManCallum5 dgn geledenGeena Davids’s face in this is more scary than the story. Between the Botox and Saw Mask face shape from her cheeks and chin, I can’t take her seriously. Other than that, it’s almost like an OAP Stranger Things or Widows Bay. Not as good as either of those but kinda entertaining. Filmed very well but some of the acting is questionable, which lets it down for me. Nothing majorly new concept/plot wise, but harmless entertainment.

It is a supernatural retirement-community mystery about older residents discovering that their supposedly idyllic new home is built around a deeply unpleasant secret. The cast is the main reason it works. Alfred Molina brings real grief and restraint to Sam, while Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Clarke Peters, Denis O’Hare, and Bill Pullman give the ensemble warmth and bite. The show is best when it lets these characters investigate, argue, and push back against everyone who assumes they are too old to matter. The creature mythology is interesting but not fully satisfying. We learn what Mother does, how she is being exploited, and why the villains want her blood, but the series still avoids explaining exactly what she and her children are or where they came from. That frustrated me a little, although the emotional arc lands better than the lore. A strange, uneven, but very watchable mix of monster mystery, grief story, and late-life adventure. It is less about escaping old age than about the price people are willing to pay to deny it.
