Sherlock Holmes was altijd al zijn tijd vooruit. Nu is hij terug zoals we hem graag zien: scherp, eigentijds, lastig en gevaarlijk. Benedict Cumberbatch zet Sherlock neer in een nieuw eigentijds licht. Hij herkent een software-ontwikkelaar aan zijn stropdas en een piloot aan zijn duim. Zijn unieke analytische brein kent geen gelijke op deze aarde. Om verveling tegen te gaan lost hij misdaden op. Een toevallige ontmoeting brengt hem in contact met soldaat John Watson, vertolkt door Martin Freeman. Ze kunnen niet meer van elkaar verschillen, maar juist Sherlocks verstand en Johns pragmatische insteek vormen samen een onbreekbaar verbond.

As with all TV series, some episodes are better than others in my opinion, but overall it is a brilliant series, the highlight of which is, without doubt, "The Reichenbach Fall", the final episode in Series 3. To start with, I was a bit confused with the three-episode-per-series format, each of which is 1 hour and 30 minutes as opposed to 45 minutes in other shows like Doctor Who, but I soon adjusted and I actually like the format immensely as each episode is like a little movie, and has much more time to develop the plot in than an ordinary series. In conclusion, I think that Steven Moffat has done an excellent job reviving a classic series of novels and short stories and modernising them with powerful actors such as Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.
