I found myself frequently fact checking the major events while watching, and the depiction here always got high marks from me. The real history is generally more bureaucratic and convoluted, but the end result is always as shown. Pullo and Vorenus are both interesting and likable, and it's a privilege to stay with them through this complex period of Rome's history. Turns out many modern problems are also Roman problems, it's truly fascinating to see how much of modern society and government is directly distilled from that system.
- Aaron Slade30 maart 2025It is an absolute crime that BBC/HBO ended this show early. Season 2 was completely rushed. It should of gone for several more seasons - being the most expensive show ever made at the time didn't help. However It is still one of my top ten shows of all time! Although casting a pale Scotsman as the lead Roman was an odd choice, the acting and writing are spot on. You feel like you are really there in ancient Rome. Highly recommended!
- Razorgirl au17 juni 2025One of the greatest television shows ever created. The attention to detail - cultural, costuming, set design. Superb actors, with expert directors. Atia of the Julli is perhaps the greatest villainess ever created. Titus Pulo is the yardstick by whom all men shall be measured.
