Jaren geleden werd de angstaanjagende piratenkoning Gol D. Roger geëxecuteerd, met achterlating van een enorme stapel schatten en de beroemde "One Piece". Degene die de "One Piece" claimt, wordt de nieuwe piratenkoning genoemd. Monkey D. Luffy, een jongen die een "Duivel's Fruit" heeft gegeten, besluit in de voetsporen te treden van zijn idool, de piraat Shanks en de One Piece te vinden. Het helpt natuurlijk dat zijn lichaam de eigenschappen van rubber heeft en dat hij wordt omringd door een schare bekwame jagers en dieven om hem op weg te helpen. Luffy zal er alles aan doen om de One Piece te krijgen en Piratenkoning te worden!
