An absolutely fantastic spoof of the spy genre at the time by all accounts. Every member of the main and recurring cast is as close to perfect as you can get from ten first episode to the last. Don Adams in particular did an absolutely spectacular job in the role of Maxwell Smart, agent 86, and in my opinion is one of the most underrated physical comedic actors of all time when it comes to slapstick humor. While the revival attempts that followed would see a significant drop in quality for the most part, particularly the dreadful 2008 feature film, the original series is still a comedy classic and a must-watch for lovers of comedy and other Mel Brooks works. Easy 5/5 stars.

As a kid I loved 60s American tv comedies but now I cant even look at them any more, except for one! Get Smart is as funny now as when I first saw it and is Mel Brooks & Buck Henry's best TV work.

Saw this one on TV as a kid, Dutch or German broadcast, can’t remember which, but the vibe stuck. Maxwell Smart was a walking disaster in a trench coat, trying to stop KAOS with gadgets that barely worked and catchphrases that somehow did. Agent 99 was the real brains and the Chief had permanent headache energy. The humor was slapstick, deadpan and weirdly clever. Felt like James Bond got rewritten by a kid with a banana phone. Didn’t get all the Cold War jokes back then, but the shoe phone and Cone of Silence were iconic. It was silly, stylish and way funnier than it had any right to be.
