Mitsuha wakes up in Taki’s body, and he in hers. This bizarre occurrence continues to happen randomly, and the two must adjust their lives around each other. The animation is absolutely breathtaking and the fact this released in 2016 and nothing that I have seen comes close to this film’s quality really says something. Even the small details such as the emotional tears running down their faces or the reflection of their eyes just makes me so much sympathy for the characters to the point i actually care for them hoping for a positive outcome. The score and soundtrack is absolutely beautiful specially Nandemonaiya and Sparkle which every time it plays sorrowful emotions are evoked. It also just really fits the theme of this movie of melancholy but also love and togetherness which although a prominent theme in Romance Anime’s, Your Name distinctively sets itself apart from the rest with its intriguing plot, relatable characters and just animated perfection. The only negatives I can say about this movie is the onset of the story tended to drag a lot but this is a minor issue as it immediately picks and finds its footing becoming consistently well paced after that. Additionally, the film can also become quite confusing whether it’s certain character decisions or the fact this movie leaps from different timelines causing the film to be out of chronological order. But Overall despite its minor flaws, Your Name is a near-perfection of a romantic fantastical anime movie which I look forward to viewing again to see how my thoughts may change. The world of Anime has always captivated me but now after reviewing my first Makoto Shinkai film I will most definitely be watching the rest of the Disaster trilogy (Weathering with You & Suzume) and the other movies in his filmography. But then came Your Name—the first anime film I ever watched, and the one that completely changed my view. It wasn’t even my idea to watch it. It was my boyfriend who suggested it. He’s really into anime, and he literally forced me to give it a try. I was a new teen back then—practically a child—and I thought, “Okay, maybe just this once.” So I chose Your Name. But honestly, the concept was a little confusing at first. The whole idea of two strangers switching bodies? It didn’t make sense to me initially. Ten minutes into the movie, I paused. I felt like I was missing something. So, I did what many people wouldn’t—I went and read the entire summary. Yes, spoilers and all. I wanted to understand it before diving deeper. And I’m so glad I did. Once I restarted the movie, this time knowing what was coming, something magical happened—I got hooked. I couldn’t move from my place. It was like the screen had a spell on me. The connection between Mitsuha and Taki, the way their lives tangled without ever truly meeting... it felt so surreal yet so emotionally real. I still remember laughing quietly to myself during the body-swapping scenes. The awkwardness, the confusion—it was all so cute and funny. But then, the story slowly turned deeper, more emotional, more breathtaking. The twist, the separation, the longing—they all hit me harder than I expected. Even though I knew what was going to happen, watching it unfold felt brand new. The visuals were stunning, every frame like a painting. The soundtrack still echoes in my mind. And more than anything, the feeling this movie gave me—it stayed. Your Name wasn’t just a movie for me. It was my introduction to a whole new world. A world of emotions, imagination, and storytelling that’s different from anything else. And even now, years later, every scene holds a special place in my heart. “If you’ve never watched anime, let Your Name be your first—just like it was mine.”
- lilllamah2 juli 2025I saw a short of it on YouTube, and was a little intrigued, spent the first 30minutes of it laughing over the absurdity of Taki discovering he was in a womans body - and immediately going full hentai.. But after that, the man who cuts onions showed up. If you just wanna see something beautiful, put it on mute and enjoy the scenery - if you want to see a beautiful story then don't mute and follow along - even if the subtitles might detract a bit from whats happening.
