I would’ve crushed that kid at every game and the dude with that stupid power glove too.

Nostalgia can be deeply therapeutic, and The Wizard hits that mark perfectly. While it often gets dismissed as a gloriously extended Nintendo commercial—and fair enough—there’s a far more grounded story underneath the arcade lights. At its core, it’s a moving look at family dynamics, the sting of divorce, and how childhood trauma shapes the adults we become. I couldn't care less about those themes as a kid, but watching it 35 years later, the emotional weight really hit me. Don't get me wrong, it’s still a blast: the Power Glove was mind-blowing at the time, and the Super Mario Bros. 3 reveal remains legendary. Look, this film won't light the world on fire—it’s pure late-'80s cheese in some ways—but it's the heart behind the product placement that will stick with me from now on.

While this movie seems universally reviled, I actually do find it sweet. It hooked me, and I liked the Mario 3 footage.

Pure nostalgia which counts for a lot! The film perfectly captures the era. The plot and antics, however, are totally insane.

Nintendo presents: Rainman. A great bad movie that showcases the style of early 90s video game commercials and has a b-plot about a creepy detective who hunts children extrajudiciously, and actively sabotages another man who is looking for his runaway child? Pure nostalgia for that era, if you've ever wanted a trip down memory lane. Pairs well with the live action Mario Bros movie.

80s video game amazingness! Great cast, great soundtrack, and nostalgia abounds. Surprisingly little video game knowledge stupidity.

Is it a glorified commercial? Yes. But its a fun commercial. Brimming with Nostalgia for a better age. But you didn't come for that, did you? You came for Mario 3. And you'll get it.

Actually the world's longest ad for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It's a fun story, but some things felt so weird and I feel it's too busy promoting the NES and its games that it doesn't give itself time to breathe. The ending just being a full blown trailer basically for Mario 3 is just insane to me but that's a world without YouTube I guess. Also didn't really like the depiction of a clearly autistic child as something that needs to be institutionalized

Made up of two seemingly unrelated stories but still fast enough to be a fun watch. Savage and Lewis were good together. Destroy Putnam.
