The Phantom!

Cinema changed the day I stepped into this film. The Phantom delivers classic pulp adventure, jungle action, and what may very well be one of my finest performances. Heroism, mystery, and undeniable presence. Some call it a comic book movie. I call it a masterclass. The Ghost Who Walks never dies… and somehow neither does my ability to make purple spandex look dangerous.

Fairly entertaining but a bit campy. Seeing Catherine Zeta-Jones from 30 years ago made it worth it!

This is a fun, leave your brain at the door, movie. It is fun and tongue-in-cheek superhero film. Great stunts and an amazing Treat Williams, Billy Zane is good too.

I’ve read The Phantom comic for about 15 years, so I’m probably a bit biased — and the character is huge in Sweden — but the movie is… fine. The look and vibe are fun and very Phantom, but honestly the script is pretty poorly written and the story could have been so much more than what we got. It feels like a missed opportunity wrapped in nice costumes and pulp adventure energy. Not bad, just not great — especially if you know how good the source material can be.

Saw this one on TV. It was pulp adventure with purple tights, jungle mysticism and Billy Zane flexing like it was a comic book cover. Based on the 1930s comic strip, it followed Kit Walker, the 21st Phantom fighting evil in the jungle and New York, armed with skull rings, a horse named Hero and a sense of legacy. It was earnest, colorful and unapologetically retro. No irony, no gritty reboot, just swashbuckling action, mystical skulls and Treat Williams chewing scenery as Xander Drax. Catherine Zeta-Jones floated between villain and vixen and Kristy Swanson gave Diana Palmer some spark. You could spot the stunt wires, the matte shots and the occasional continuity wobble, but that added charm. I loved the crazy idea and the throwback vibe. It felt like someone found a lost serial reel and gave it a glossy TV polish.
