I give this movie 1 star for each Korben Dallas that attempted to board Fhloston Paradis.

This movie has so much happening in it; aliens, corporate greed, an underdog hero, more aliens, action scenes, ancient mysteries, and that is just the beginning. It is hard to imagine that this movie all started in the mind of a 16-year-old and grew to be such an iconic film! The characters fit together so well and seem to have great chemistry, taking their performance to a truly engrossing level. Bruce Willis is the hero once again, with Milla Jovovich playing both a damsel and a secret weapon needed to save the world. Sprinkle in a bit of comedic styling by Chris Tucker and you have a recipe for an excellent movie night.

A spectacular melange of action movie tropes, Die Hard, Blade Runner and Indiana Jones influences are on display in this unforgetable sci-fi action comedy popcorn movie adventure. The cast are all great in this film, fitting perfecting into the fully realized and believable grimey fantasy future. The oddly enduring mythos of the four elements gets the captain planet treatment and the universe, once again threatened by anicent evil is saved at the last second by the undeniable power of cheese, or rather, Love. Mila Jovovich shines as the so-called ultimate lifeform, but felt a little under utilized in the later half, a missed opportunity in a film largely dominated by the reliable burnt out cop brilliance of Bruce Willis. Her kick ass character is abruptly re-adjusted to the damsal in distress role, and it leaves a nagging feeling like there was a scene missing to sell the transition from her optimistic nievety to despondent wounded and hopeless demeanor, ready to be saved by Bruce. I don't know how strong the chemistry was between them either. Chris Tucker is unbelievable as the intergalactic pan-sexual radio DJ, and brings a lot of energy. It all adds up to an enduring great movie, and I was shocked to learn recently that the Opera scene was about 85% real vocals, complementing the real effects, and limited CGI making the film an enduring visual and auditory delight.

This is one of my absolute favorite movies. The action, comedy, sci-fi, drama, and hell, even the opera scene. This is a perfect movie. If you haven't seen it, definitely do yourself a favor and watch!

This movie falls so far from my normal wheelhouse, yet it is one of my all-time favorites. It's silly and it's clever and just very well done. Sometimes we dismiss shortcomings because something is "a product of its time." This movie is only all the more impressive despite being a product of its time.

Some movies age. This one just vibes forever. It’s unapologetically extra—bright colors, big personalities, wild sci-fi ideas—and yet it’s got this surprisingly warm heart at the center of all the chaos. Bruce Willis plays it cool and dry like only he can, Milla Jovovich is magnetic from the second she appears, and Chris Tucker absolutely runs away with every scene he’s in. It’s bold, funny, romantic, and completely its own thing. Easily one of my favorite films—I watch it at least once a year and it never loses that spark.

The Fifth Element is as old as it is brilliant. The remastered quality looks great, and it still holds up remarkably well. Hard to believe it came out in 1997, the visuals, energy, and sheer imagination feel timeless. A classic that hasn’t lost its spark.
