Usually not one for movies like this - but it’s grown on me over the years. My mom loves watching it around christmastime - or, anytime really - and that hits home with the core narrative of the movie. The clever title also helps ;)

If you enjoy people just being mean to a person for no good reason then this will be up your alley. Christmas movie ?

I love this movie! Is it cheesy? Sure. I suppose it's also a bit predictable if you're the type who watches lots of movies. But that doesn't detract from how much fun it is. It's a story centered on two people, each determined to be perfect, and how they begin to unravel when their relationship falls under the shadow of an overbearing, insular family. This movie is really well-done, the way the writers use subtle cues to signal subtext without being patronizing and shoving the backstory in your face. It's what I really hate about hollywood. The assumption that the audience can't pick up on clues. Anyway. The Family Stone doesn't talk down to the audience. It has its moments that haven't aged very well and quite frankly, that were uncomfortable way back when it first came out. Yet somehow, it manages to survive them. This movie is hilariously cringe-inducing. The characters feel like real people, so you might find yourself yelling at your screen quite a bit. And I like that it doesn't fall into the sort of dated, offensive tropes most movies use flagrantly. It's an entertaining and very touching holiday movie with some really beautiful moments. If you're an archaic, puritanical, uptight ryte wing bigut, you'll hate this movie. Then again, those types hate everything so ignore those reviews and please report those that cross the line. If you're a normal person who likes movies that feel real and enjoy relatable characters, then you might just enjoy The Family Stone.

The movie felt a bit too random and didn't really know where to stand. And just drama for the sake of drama.
