Oh I forgot how good this one is.   Paramount noirs were very different than RKOs.   They have a lighter touch and are overstuffed with actors, elaborate sets and interesting camera movements.  I swear I can tell the difference between 40s RKO, WB, Paramount and Universal pictures films just by their look.   Studios really did have a set way of making films with the director not contributing as much as you would have believed.  Farrow does have to be praised if only because his wife O’Sullivan is in it and the camera loves her. A great suspense film that leans into the oversized New York characters that pepper the film.  Elsa Lanchester and George Macready are great as always.  But there’s also little Harry Morgan as a hitman.  But this is Charles Laughton’s world and he’s the boss. So much fun.
