- EnochLight10 mei 2025Often cited as a cheap imitation of Conan the Barbarian (which was released the same year just 3 months prior), Don Coscarelli's epic got a bad wrap IMHO. The world-building in this film is absolutely amazing, and the cinematography is excellent. While it has its issues - Tanya Roberts is largely relegated to being eye candy (which, honestly - not mad about it!) and there's some uncomfortable scenes that did not age well, the effects are "ok", the sword fighting mediocre at best, some unresolved issues (ummmm - Marc Singer's Dar and Tanya Roberts Kiri are actually royal cousins!), the film manages to wrap up in an absolutely epic end battle shot largely at night. This film ruled repeats on 80's cable TV straight into the 90's, cementing it as a pop culture icon. Give it a watch - the 4K HDR release is fantastic and worth the money for the Blu-Ray. I've made it a permanent part of my Plex collection!

Als baby was Dar, de zoon van een koning, ontvoerd door een heks die handelde in opdracht van de slechte tovenaar Maax. Op het moment dat Dar geofferd zou worden, wordt hij gered door een oude man. De man voedt Dar op als zijn eigen zoon en leert hem zich te verdedigen. Ondertussen ontwikkelt Dar het vermogen om telepathisch te communiceren met dieren. Hun vreedzame leven wordt echter verstoord door een groep beestachtige soldaten onder het commando van Maax. Dar zweert wraak en gaat op reis naar het koninkrijk van zijn echte vader om Maax te verslaan.
