La Bête Ratings & Reviews
- Varun19 oktober 2024This was honestly a very interesting movie that I unfortunately didn’t feel strongly connected to and hence took 3 days over an entire week to finish it. Maybe the pacing was slow or the plot was too high concept for me. But once I finished it, the messages finally started to click in my head and I found a great appreciation for the film as a whole. This is a sci-fi horror romance film that spans three different time periods with various thematic connections that spark a light on the nature of love, fear, loneliness, technological implications, relationships and so many more concepts that will take time to unpack. Léa Seydoux gives an unbelievably great performance, there’s so much emotion to glean from every subtle expression on her face and dialogue delivery. The film is also quite pretty to look at, it’s very arthouse and also has a couple of visually arresting sequences. I would recommend paying full attention and sticking through the pacing by just watching the whole film in one sitting, it’s going to be easier to analyse and will have a greater impact on you. Despite the difficulty I had committing, I believe this is a highly unique film that is definitely worth checking out and one I will be ruminating on for a long time.

- cultfilmliker8 april 2025Jesus what a showcase from Léa Seydoux. What a great pairing. MacKay is great as well! Loved the eclectic soundtrack! Some neat editing and directing that felt very Haneke inspired! Thoroughly enjoyed it! Okay, Severance really devastated my reference pool. Throw some Don’t Worry Darling, Mulholland Drive, Under The Skin, and Vanilla Sky in there then The hardest left turn possible was both fascinating and made me lol Also did NOT expect Dasha! lol wild cast. Missed opportunity for Tim Heidecker during that singing scene lmao SPOILER: George MacKay plays his character from Captain Fantastic if at the end he immediately went full red pill inc*l. Little too on the nose Elliot Rodger impersonation “I’m not afraid anymore!” will always remind me of Donnie Darko and Joy Division and it always makes that line even better lmao Credits as a QR Code is insane Watched via Criterion Channel free week
- Lee Robinson10 februari 2025Boring as fuck
- Desmond Dale24 januari 2025Conceptually, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind comes to mind although the execution is quite different and brought back feelings of Godard at his most experimental as in say Alphaville. It's seemingly this lush romantic tale centered around two protagonists engaged in a fatalistic journey for each other but it goes to a much more interesting and bittersweet place with a tragic yet ultimately less rose-colored reading of our human existence and the fragile, fleeting nature of finding happiness and or love. It pivots the source of tragedy from outside influences and an us against the world new wave ethos to an inward psychological flaw not unlike the tragedies of Yorgos and Haneke.
- Tyler S13 januari 2025A YouTube video explaining what I witnessed upped the rating. 👍👍 7/10
- The Gutter Monkey17 oktober 2024A relatively simple sci-fi romance/horror delivered in an unnecessarily complicated and dragged-out way. If the same story had been told less pretentiously, it may have been more worth a watch.
