The animation from 2003 is wonderful. The colors, the patterns, the endless designs are all very desirable. How little does it take for a computer or robot to want to stay alive/keep working?

If you ever wondered how, why, what, where and when the Matrix came about then you must watch The Animatrix. Especially the Second renaissance. Great animation in a multitude of styles well worth the watch.

The anime expands the Matrix universe and gives context to how things got so bad. It just happens to have amazing animation and poignant storytelling. My favorite of the entire Matrix universe.

Very cool, and a great addition if you're already a Matrix fan. Really love the filling in of the story about the inception of The Matrix. The only reason I give it 4 instead of 5 is that some of the stories are slightly up to interpretation and may be a little hard to decipher, Especially the final one.

Growing up, I thought The Matrix was one of the like most deepest movies. As my horizons have broadened (slightly), the movie and its... oh, trailed off there. Weird. Anyways, The Animatrix is a compilation of nine short films dedicated to fleshing out the world of The Matrix. One serves as a direct prequel (Final Flight of the Osiris) to the other films that I don't know about. There are three shorts that I love. "The Last Renaissance, Parts 1 & 2" depict the early days of the conflict between machine and man. It's a good, fairly unflinching piece of Sci-Fi. The other one that I love is "World Record". It details a world-class track runner who is essentially able to will himself out of the matrix through the sheer force of his conviction. The animation style is bizarre, and the whole premise is just different and unexpected.
