Where to Watch Space Sweepers
- Daniel Gustavsson12 oktober 2024Great movie! Amazing acting and storylines. The action and effects are top notch also. Do yourself a favor and see this.
- Richard12 oktober 2025This one’s a scrappy gem from South Korea’s sci-fi vault. Space Sweepers imagines a future where Earth is choking on pollution and orbital junk is big business. The crew of the Victory, led by a brooding ex-soldier, a badass captain, a wisecracking robot and a grumpy engineer. The aren’t heroes, but survivors. Until they find Dorothy, a mysterious child who might be a weapon, a miracle, or both. The visuals are stunning, especially for a film made on a fraction of a Hollywood budget. The action is kinetic, the humor lands and the found family dynamic gives it heart. It’s got shades of Guardians of the Galaxy, but with a distinctly Korean soul: class struggle, corporate dystopia and emotional beats that sneak up on you. You saw it maybe first on Netflix like I did and it probably surprised you. It’s not perfect, the plot gets tangled and some exposition feels heavy, but it’s earnest, energetic and full of charm. The kind of movie you didn’t expect to love, but you did. It’s not just space junk. It’s a story worth salvaging.
- disulfiram15 augustus 2026It's not actually a bad movie, but the genre is not sci-fi. This is what I call space fantasy, where instead of magic you have technology. You can also call it space punk if you like. You can also call it live action anime, because that's also what this movie is. So if you don't like anime there is a chance you might not like this one for the same reasons - comically evil villain, everyone is extremely expressive in their movements, bunch of slowmo "cool" looking over the sholder moments, insane over the top action scenes. The important thing is, sci-fi has a very specific meaning as a genre and you can't put any movie that takes place in the future in it. There is also a bunch of basic science that's wrong in the movie. Like a space elevator that goes zero G when it reaches space, even though it doesn't move laterally. A whole plot point is that one of the main characters is looking for the body of someone that got ejected in space in an accident. For some reason there is a time limit in finding the body as it will drift into deep space after that. If NASA knew that you can get in deep space after a decompression accident we'd already be colonizing the universe. A robot can throw a spear with enough force to pierce a metal ship, but can't lift a man and a child. "There is too much junk flying around earth!" (hense "Space Sweepers") goes on to fight for every piece of junk with the same people. This list goes on and on. It would be fine if this was tagged as Anime or Space Punk, but for a sci-fi, I think it's too much to expect for the audience to accept. My very honest opionon is: If you are wondering if you should watch it, give it a try, if you don't feel convinced in a couple of minutes, drop it. It doesn't get any better, the plot isn't super original. It's not a bad movie but it's not going to win you over with exceptional anything.
