Kore-eda crafts a beautiful tension between petty crime and genuine love—you find yourself rooting for this makeshift family even as they break the law. The warm interactions feel so real, and the film never judges its characters for doing wrong things with good intentions. It's uncomfortable, humane, and stays with you long after the credits roll.
