- keyser281462 juli 2025An all-time classic. Avoid the Netflix remake. Hitchcock at his best. The central lesson in this story is to avoid making assumptions fueled by your own insecurity, but the way its done and the impacts in the story are so deep, it becomes a meditation on human communication. Like Citizen Kane, here's a classic so well crafted and well-told that through its age only becomes more timeless. Its also different enough from the book that it becomes its own entity, and the credit has to go to Daphne Du Maurier for such an adaptable yet timeless story. Audible produced a reading of it in the 2010's that becomes a third way to experience it, also excellent and dream-like. This is maybe the only movie I can think of where the title character has a palpable presence and looms over every image, character, and conversation in the movie; but never appears, is never voiced, and was never even casted.
