Polite Society Ratings & Reviews
- jackmeat12 januari 2026My quick rating - 6.3/10. Polite Society is a light-hearted and entertaining flick that follows the journey of Ria Khan (Priya Kansara), a martial artist in the making, as she embarks on a mission to bail out her elder sister Lena from an arranged wedding. Together with the help of her friends, Ria decides to plan a wedding heist, which stems from her own need for experiences in independence and sisterhood. Although the movie has its light-hearted and lovable instances and characters, it has certain points where it goes wrong. The first strength of the movie can be found in its heroine, Kansara. She is a strong and determined character who captivates the audience with her martial arts skills (part of the fun here) and unwavering determination to save her sister. The movie does a great service to Ria’s transformation as a person learning to discover herself. This makes her very relatable as a hero. This movie fares very well because of the light-hearted plot that it has, as it makes it very enjoyable to watch. Having a heist plot makes it even more interesting as it increases the level of thrill. There is a very evident link between Ria and her friends. This makes her friendship bring substance to the plot of brotherhood that it is trying to exhibit. I did appreciate that it actually took a very interesting turn towards the end of this flick. This gave the film a bit of “oomph” as it was taking a very typical movie route up until this point. Although this film attempts to touch upon themes of independence and the expectations of society, it only scratches the surface, which makes some points seem a bit wasted. On a technical level, the film is a work of beauty - the action scenes were fantastic, as was the cinematography. The music is very fitting for the film as it adds a bit of character to the whole viewing. This one definitely had the required bit of humor to complement the action, as this film was no attempt at a full-on action flick. Overall, I found this one a fun and enjoyable flick with a strong protagonist and a likable group of characters. I would recommend it for a light-hearted adventure with likeable characters, if that is what you're looking for.
- Kevin Ward3 juli 2025Bursting with energy, humor, heart…and fury, Polite Society is a delight. My 8 y/o son has been dying to see this since he first saw a trailer months ago and so I brought him to the advanced screening. He loved it. Completely delivered. Priya Kansara is utterly endearing and the sisterly bond that she has with Ritu Arya makes for an enchanting on screen duo. And Nimra Bucha is a perfect foil. This was such a fun watch, particularly that final act. Kansara’s dance sequence is beautiful and captivating. Fight sequences are energetic and fun. The entire package really comes together nicely. Impressive directorial debut from Nida Manzoor. I really encourage everyone to check it out. I’m a little bit worried it won’t find it’s audience. It has some sexual innuendo and a fair amount of cursing that might give some parents pause. But again, my 8 year old son loved it. If you can get passed a few of those moments, it’s worth bringing the family.
