I can understand wanting to copy the Titanic formula of doing a period piece romance with a major historical event as a backdrop. For some reason using a war crime as the backdrop feels way more distasteful than a natural disaster/negligent accident.

Pearl Harbor is a beautiful and emotional ride, that will leave you in tears by the end. Micheal Bay knows what he is doing in terms of great visuals and he yet again delivers some great visuals, green screen, and practical effects; The big explosions that happen in the film look incredible as well as the rest of the war scenes. The performances are amazing and will leave you in tears, they play such likeable characters and all three of them have a great relationship with each other. The action sequences are huge and intense in the last hour and a half, they will keep you on the edge of your seat, gripping your chair. The first half of the film can get a little cheesy at some points and the dialogue in that first half isn’t the greatest, but other than that it’s a prefect movie. So overall Pearl Harbor is an intense, emotional, and beautiful ride that I think is truly an amazing film and a movie I would recommend.

An epic action thriller based on the Pearl Harbor attack. An all-star cast - Josh Brolin, Ben Affleck and the beautiful Kate Beckinsale - ensure that no scene is dull. Superb CGI means that this movie never ages and is still worth a look even if war films are not necessarily your thing. Great story, great cast, classic movie.

    Love story and history lesson

    — the film that asks: “What if a national tragedy had abs, explosions, and a love triangle nobody asked for?” I used the 1080p Blu-ray to demo plasma TVs and seat rumbling synced subwoofers back in the day. Customers didn’t walk out informed — they walked out thinking war was a roller coaster with a shirtless Josh Hartnett in the front seat. The history? Optional. The slow-mo? Mandatory. The romance? Somehow survived more bombings than the actual base. Kate Beckinsale could've ended the war with a single glance. Affleck and Hartnett act like they're in a cologne commercial that keeps getting interrupted by actual warfare. Bay gave us explosions so clean, they make death look like a fireworks show. Japan starts things off with an unannounced party — and Bay responds by turning every frame into a recruitment ad for testosterone. ★★★★☆ – Historically questionable, emotionally manipulative, and worth every damn watt of surround sound.
