I went to high school in the early aughts and always wished I grew up during the grunge/alternative era and tried my best to expose myself to all the great bands. I somehow never learned about Pavement and through this film have been enlightened about them and their wonderful music and I feel lucky and unlucky somehow. I’m not sure I totally comprehended the biopic element, but that didn’t take away from how awesome the experience was. Excited to keep working through the discography.

Watched this with a few friends and one of them kept asking “Are you sure we shouldn’t watch Range Life first?” ————— If you were to make a music documentary, what would be the most important element to capture? The musicians story? Their music? Their spirit? Pavements opts for the later first and foremost. Layering interviews on top of archival footage on top of a reunion on top of a stage play often times showing multiple points of their adaptations and points of the story all at once while moving forward and backwards in time. Honestly, it’s even denser than that. Pavements is a wholly unique celebration of the legacy of a legendary indie rock band. I have never seen a documentary quite like this.

Came into the film lukewarm on Pavement, exited the film lukewarm on Pavement. Sooo it’s definitely got a documentary feel to it! Wildly experimental direction from Alex Ross Perry. The fear of Bohemian Rhapsody was apparent! I am glad it wasn’t that! Every time “FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION” appeared I laughed. Kinda glad I don’t actually wanna see Range Life Michael Esper looks just like Tim Heidecker and I can’t get over it
