“Network” is a film with a clear message: what happens when the media stops caring about people and starts chasing ratings. It questions whether we shape television or whether television shapes us. What stands out is how little has changed. Corporate control, mergers, profit over truth, it all feels current. The writing is sharp, the characters feel real, and even when it leans into philosophy, it still moves. It holds up because the core idea hasn’t aged. If anything, it’s closer to the truth now than it was then. And that line still lands, “we’re mad as hell, and we’re not going to take it anymore”.

A great script and fantastic acting. Easily one of Sidney Lumet's best works.

It could be my favourite film of all time and still absolutely relevant for our times. Every character, scene, word even is sculpted to perfection to lay out something that with other hands would just feel trite. It can not be recommended highly enough. Watch it tonight or I'll be 'mad as hell'.

Sydney Lumet at his best, IMHO!

The entire cast (Peter Finch, William Holden, Faye Dunaway, Ned Beatty and BeatriceStraight) garnered widespread acclaim, earning them all Oscar nominations the first two for Best Actor, and the last three for Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress, respectively, with Finch, Dunaway and Straight winning. Vincent Canby of The New York Times called Network "outrageous ... brilliantly, cruelly funny, a topical American comedy that confirms Paddy Chayefsky's position as a major new American satirist" and a film whose "wickedly distorted views of the way television looks, sounds, and, indeed, is, are the satirist's cardiogram of the hidden heart, not just of television but also of the society that supports it and is, in turn, supported
