Richard lives in a beautiful old house. It seems he has put his former life as a successful writer and a bachelor adored by women behind him. All that remains are his classic car, which he drives through the Bavarian mountains, and his weekly fishing trips with his only friend, Gabriel. His housekeeper, Martha, puts up with his mood swings and never fails to offer a cynical remark in return. One day, a young woman and her young son have an accident in the morning fog in front of Richard's house. The car needs repairs, so Judith and Dominik stay with Richard. What was supposed to be a few days turns into a permanent stay. Richard discovers his affection for the boy, who at first refuses to speak to the seemingly aloof old man but eventually responds to his clumsy attempts to get him to talk. When the child falls into the river, Richard saves his life. And then, late-spring feelings begin to stir, which Richard hesitantly admits to himself regarding Judith. She is pretty, chaotically warmhearted, and a terrible driver. And she is a painter. She likes the hospitable and witty older gentleman. However, her feelings do not go beyond that. At the breakfast table, in the overgrown garden, on outings, and during late-night conversations in Richard's library, the three of them grow together into the image of a small family that Richard never had and, until now, never missed. Gabriel is angry because his friend is ignoring him. And the worldly-wise Martha warns Richard. Rightly so - because Judith has driven her car into a ditch while fleeing from a man she can't seem to escape.
