The film is built around a simple yet potent idea: a curse born out of extreme domestic violence that spreads to anyone who crosses the threshold of a contaminated house. The concept itself is compelling and intriguing, but the execution has aged significantly. Crude special effects, static camerawork, a chaotic narrative structure, and poorly defined scene continuity mean that the tension rarely truly works. The acting is uneven, and the overall form feels more like an experiment than a fully realized theatrical film. Even so, the viewing experience carries historical value - it helps explain where the mythology of Japanese horror came from and why it had such a strong influence on Western cinema. It’s worth watching out of curiosity and for context, but not for genuinely frightening moments.
