overall a good film with a pretty scary( but still cutee, somehow, ...i think!!)-spider, chasing the family, with the mum staying determined, they wont fall prey, lol & the daughter & son being chuffled around by her to stay safe. ....it cud have been done better, needs more authenticity to be done in this over simplified mode it seems to have been done in, that wud have worked best but without more authenticity & at leadt some depth( ..meaning needs a depth that is beyond the family bond/& closeness of the characters)..... it kind of ends up a half way between the two, simple not authentic enuf & too much almost fake wenever simple leaves off for a moment. .....overall it appears a little lack of authentic, somehow, leaves the film hanging in mid air, sat between simple & more serious!!! ....which is a shame as it cud have been very enjoyable! ...this horror is similar & comparable to "babadook". ....still is worth a watch tho( just for the spiders little face itd be worth a watch, those eyes peeping at the kids & the mum & spindly legs clattering against a laminate floor, cheered me up!! lol)🙂

My quick rating - 5.0/10. This giant spider movie did something I didn't expect at all. It actually tried to be serious. Stranger still, it succeeded in doing so. The story itself wasn't great but instead of just being all cheese about a big ass spider running around killing people, we had a family that they took the time to attempt to make you care about with a backstory. They also gave the spider an old folklore tale of its inception. The underlying theme, though, is still there, and it isn't all that frightening either. An ancient, cursed spider queen's curse is entombed in an "egg" looking thing in an artifact collector's house and is released when a poorly explained burglar breaks it. This is where our killer arachnid comes in and is set on murdering the family. The effects are as expected, and in the end, I was leaning more towards drama. But no, giant spiders killing falls into horror even if the family's dysfunction really was the focus.
