- cultfilmliker5 november 2025Never seen Sally Hawkins this way. Never seen anybody this way tbh. Love it so much I can’t handle it. What an incredibly lovely film. I fucking love friendship. Wish I had seen this 10+ years ago lol Scott is such a fragile, pathetic little man. His outlook and state of mind are still common today and it’s abhorrent. Love too see Sarah Niles! Everyone in this film is incredible! And annoyingly good-looking! Just incredible writing. Some of my favorite banter ever. Simply insane Mike Leigh is able to writer such light AND dark material so exquisitely. 1000% thought this was made at least a decade before it actually was. Not a condemnation, just curious! Subtle detail but it’s so sad how much I love that she calls out the instructor for his racism. I actually feel guilty about being excited to see it in movies? Bc it feels white savior-y? Idk man I’m high and race is complex

Poppy is een schooljuf in Noord-Londen. Haar leven lijkt op sommige momenten wat gecompliceerd, maar Poppy bekijkt alles van de zonnige kant. En zo is ze niet alleen het stralende middelpunt van iedere situatie, maar ook een bron van vrolijkheid voor alle mensen die ze tegen komt. Als haar fiets gestolen wordt, vindt ze het vooral jammer dat ze geen afscheid heeft kunnen nemen. Als ze dan maar besluit rijlessen te nemen, vindt ze in haar rij-instructeur Scott haar volledige tegenpool. Altijd open voor nieuwe dingen begint ze volledig impulsief ook maar aan een flamenco-cursus. Ondertussen krijgt ze te maken met een leerling die thuis mishandeld lijkt te worden. Dit zorgt allerminst voor donkere wolken boven haar hoofd.
