Een kind wordt wakker en loopt naar het verblindende licht van de deuropening, voorzichtig stappend over de talloze bewegingsloze lichamen die verspreid liggen over een inmense vloer. Het begroet de Amerikaanse vlag, zo bekend maar toch toch zo vreemd. Het is 1972, na de val van Saigon, in een van de troosteloze Vietnamese vluchtelingenkampen in Amerika. Het kind, Minh Pham begint opnieuw aan zijn dagelijkse zoektoicht naar zijn moeder in het uitgebreide kamp..Green Dragon is het intrigerende en ontroerende verhaal over mensen, die proberen de zin te vinden van een verloren oorlog, over uiteengerukte families, hoop en verwachting. Maar ook de tragedie van vervlogen illusies en verloren identiteit.

    This is a pointiant story of Vietnamese refugees near the end of the war in one of the camps in the US awaiting American sponsors to take them in. Patrick Swayze is the commanding officer and Forest Whitaker is the volunteer cook. The storyline begins as one little boy, separated from his mother during the conflicts in Vietnam, waiting for her to arrive in the US. It blossoms from there into intricate tale of the endurance, hope, and fear of those who seek a new life. Patrick Swayze is great as the once ridgid commanding officer who then realizes just who these people really are. Forest Whitaker is fantastic as the cook, who takes the little boy, as mentioned in the beginning, and brings him courage.
