The relationship between Ford and Hayworth is intriguing from the outset and foreshadows trouble. The filmmakers pushed the boundaries as far as the Hays Code, then in force in the cinema, would allow, right up to the iconic scene of Hayworth’s ‘sensual’ dance, which is undoubtedly the film’s greatest asset.
