Chazelle really nails how claustrophobic and terrifying it would have been inside those machines, trying to do something that had only been science fiction up to that point. M-O-O-N, that spells moon 🚀🌚

This story surrounds a man's struggle to be present, through unbearable loss, for himself and the ones he loves. Burying himself in his work, where fear of death was a huge distraction for everyone else- was his escape from his own reality and true greatest fear. This film is absolutely terror inducing. The astronauts, the flights, (the crazy horrifying noises during the flights!), the families, the guilt of being an astronaut and risking the lifelong pain you will almost certainly put your family through when you don't survive it all. What a movie! Editing/timing was fantastic.

Have to say this was not at all what I expected. They only half-told the story, and really left you wondering what point they were trying to make. If the goal was portraying the journey that Neil took from the Navy to Civilian test pilot to NASA to becoming the commander of Apollo 11, they pretty much failed at every level.

Neil Armstrong was not a movie star. He was focused, and efficient - in both his mannerisms and his speech. Although Ryan Goseling might not physically resemble Armsgtrong he certainly carries the aloofness and the seeming distance. Certain poetic license must be exercised in order to tell a complete story. I for one feel the emotion and the tension of this movie, and I feel I enjoy the lack of Hollywood hyperbole more than anything. Except for the marital conflict they try to display. This “conflict” between Armstrong and his wife sticks in my craw. Normally you would think that his wife would realize how tremendous an accomplishment her husband was embarking upon, yet she complains that the risk of their kids growing up without a father is somehow a fate worse than death. How many hundreds of thousands of kids grow up without a father? It might not be ideal, but life is not ideal. I’m not sure how accurate this portrayal of his wife is, but I do know that they did eventually get divorced well after the moon landing. What was it that was said about Eve’s role in Paradise? Despite having everything she could ask for it just wasn’t enough for her?

This movie felt like a prequel to "Apollo 13". There are things in this movie that were mentioned in "Apollo 13".

Wish it would have elaborated more on the Apollo11 mission from launch to splashdown, I know it was about him but come on. That's what made Neil him.

I really wanted to like this. I was so looking forward to it. Cinematography was awesome. Loved the kind of first person claustrophobic feel in the launch shots. Sound and score were spectacular. All that said. I know everything I read about Armstrong says he was a very humble and quite person, but they made him seem angry and bitter. I never once felt he really wanted to go to the moon and In a movie that is about the first person to ever go, that seems important. Maybe it’s just my dislike for Ryan Gosling talking.

Not a happy movie. Made for the academy awards, not for entertainment
