- Richard3 augustus 2025I bought Elvira’s Haunted Hills on DVD purely because, well, it’s Elvira. After first seeing her host horror classics on TV, I was already hooked on her blend of vampy glam and razor-sharp wit. This film, set in 1851 Romania, is a cheeky gothic spoof that leans hard into camp, melodrama, and classic horror tropes. It’s a loving homage to Roger Corman, Vincent Price and Edgar Allan Poe films, complete with elaborate sets, dramatic lighting and over the top performances. That said, it’s not for everyone. The humor is proudly lowbrow, the budget is modest and the tone is unapologetically camp. But if you’re a fan of Elvira or vintage horror parody, it’s a riot. It’s a love letter to gothic schlock, and Elvira makes it sing. That DVD was a no brainer, and it’s earned its spot on the shelf.
