Rewatching Dobermann as an adult doesn’t so much expose flaws as it changes the way its excess lands. The characters are clearly designed as caricatures, and that works within the film’s anarchic logic, the cops are deliberately villainized, the criminals are stylized anti-heroes, and everything is pushed toward comic-book extremity. In that sense, it still succeeds as a fun, aggressive piece of genre filmmaking. However, what felt like pure rebellious energy on an earlier viewing now feels less coherent in impact. The film’s chaos is constant rather than shaped, which makes it harder to revisit with the same excitement once the initial shock value is gone. Compared to something like Airbag, which maintains a sharper sense of structure and comedic rhythm even on rewatch, Dobermann feels more dependent on raw intensity than sustained construction. It’s not worse than remembered in a technical sense, it’s just less rewatchable than the memory of it suggests.
