Robert Duvall plays that man as both villain and victim: unstable, unpredictable, at times almost childlike. That’s what makes it uncomfortable; you’re never quite sure who he is from one moment to the next. It’s uneven, but honest about showing people living with someone who is no longer fully there, in control over them.
