Hae-won is een mooie vrouw die voor een bank in Seoel werkt. Ze leidt een actief leven, maar als ze getuige is geweest van een moordaanslag en alles op haar werk niet meer lekker loopt, moet ze een rustpauze inlassen. Ze vertrekt naar 'Moodo', een klein onontwikkeld eiland, waar ze ooit haar grootouders bezocht. En waar ze vriendin werd met Bok-nam, die haar nog steeds schrijft, ondanks dat Hae-won al jarenlang nooit meer terug schrijft.

    Bedevilled is a brutal Korean revenge horror film, but what makes it linger is not just the gore or the eventual slasher turn. It is the long, ugly build-up: the daily abuse of Bok-nam, the island community’s casual cruelty, and Hae-won’s refusal to involve herself until it is far too late. The film works because it treats horror as accumulation. Bok-nam is not pushed over the edge by one incident alone, but by years of being used, ignored, humiliated, and trapped. Seo Young-hee’s performance keeps the character painfully human, even when the film moves into full revenge mode. Ji Sung-won’s Hae-won is equally important as the outsider and childhood friend who sees enough to act, but keeps choosing distance. What I found most disturbing is how ordinary the evil feels. There is no supernatural curse here. The island itself becomes the curse: small, isolated, and protected by everyone’s silence. When the violence finally erupts, it is cathartic but not triumphant. The film understands that revenge may answer rage, but it cannot restore what has been taken. A harsh, uncomfortable, memorable film. Not casual viewing, but very effective if you can handle its subject matter.

    I selected subtitles in English and they didn't work. My Korean isn't what it used to be so I stopped watching after 2 minutes.

    This is quite painful and tragic story, to the point where it’s a horror. Everything is spectacular. Not recommended for people who are depressed.

    Well the movie makes u think. And from now on whenever I'll see day sun shining over head I'll remember Kim boknam. That's my homage to the character. The female lead actress portrayed the charcter to finest.
