- Jacob19 maart 2026There's an argument that Barney the Dinosaur as a character is fundamentally broken by not having any human flaws that make him relatable. When your character's only trait is to constantly reinforce positive messages, that can become repetitive and annoying. When you're making a MOVIE about that character, that's an even harder nut to crack without giving them an emotional arc. How does Barney's Great Adventure (1998) solve that? It balances self-awareness with maintaining the heart of Barney, which is probably one of the best options the writers could've went with. Familiar to children, digestible for adults. Sometimes it causes Barney to unintentionally become a little passive-aggressive, which I even found hilarious as a child when I watched my VHS copy. It's just a cute and funny movie, honestly. I've always loved Barney the Dinosaur, even as an adult. He's the type of friend that won't always know how to help you when you're feeling down, but will never leave your side. 2.8/5.0
