Alien: Romulus Ratings & Reviews
- rg94001 november 2024I am surprised by the negative reviews because I really enjoyed this movie a lot. I see people comparing it to different films in the Star Wars franchise, and honestly, that's an apt comparison because it seems Alien fans are a lot like Star Wars fans, never satisfied with anything and constantly complaining. After the backlash to the pseudo-philosophical approach to the prior two entries in this franchise, this film goes back to the horror basics, using the template of the first two movies as a blueprint for how to approach its story. Yes, it does feel like it replicates a few plot beats, and there are attempts to shoehorn references related to the franchise into the movie. However, there are only a couple moments, and none that are set up as with a pause for audience applause. When the biggest movie of the summer is literally just a constant hammering of such moments, so what if this movie has a few nostalgia plays? Honestly, if you haven't seen any movie in the franchise, you would fully miss those moments, as they serve only as Easter Eggs. However, what this film gets right are the aesthetics which are immaculate. A++. Everything looks and sounds straight out of the 70s sci-fi world of the original. The focus on practical effects and little details is immediately noticeable. The set pieces feel engrossing and suspenseful as the movie slowly unravels before turning into a thrill ride. And it does leave its own twist on the franchise with a wonderfully weird final act. The cast is overall interesting, but Cailee Spaeny continues to steal the show, feeling like a bona fide scream queen. It's one of the better entries to the franchise and one of the better movies of the year. Ignore the mixed reviews and watch it in theaters without any sort of prescribed expectations about what the movie should be. You'll have a fun time.

- Lee Wilson6 maart 2026Good fun movie
- Paulo Coelho Alves19 oktober 2024At this point I’m not even sure how to review Alien movies. Ridley Scott made a perfect movie with the original and this one basically is all about capturing its sense of claustrophobia. Everything from the design of ships to the all-encompassing, all-consuming Weyland-Yutani Corporation—painted here in much more obvious strokes—is meant to invoke despair, a universe wholly in the grip of monsters out of our deepest nightmares. The thing is, those words could be lifted out a review of the original movie. What’s new then? Unfortunately not much. This is a movie leas concerned with doing something new with the material as it is with reminding you of its greatness. As a piece of pure homage it works, and even stands on its own in a couple of inspired sequences. But it simply can’t escape the gravitational pull of the original.
- MeghannB18 augustus 2024Really enjoyed this movie- appreciated that visually it stayed true to the original Alien movies while simultaneously incorporating modern day special effects to make it all look incredibly realistic. Music was giving “epic 80s” movie soundtrack, which I loved. We re-watched Alien and Aliens prior to heading to the movie (it had been a while) and I recommend doing that so you notice all the details/callbacks even more! A fun movie DEFINITELY worth seeing on the big screen.
- Ray Hopkin16 oktober 2024This was awesome! A great addition to the Alien universe in the same way Prey was a great addition to the Predator universe. Some great jump scares, and very creepy and nerve shredding vibes throughout, and the cast were amazing. I get the feeling that Elon Musk would be a perfect fit for Weyland Yutani Corps new president... I really enjoyed the story, and I'd be very happy if Alverez is given the opportunity to make another one. I'd also like to see Scott being given the opportunity to finish his trilogy too... And maybe, maybe, we'll get a decent Alien/Predator cross over too. Now to go back and continue playing Alien Isolation...
- COCO18 maart 2025In space no one can hear you scream…unless your name is Isabela Merced.
- Paul Walsh13 februari 2026A decent movie with great visuals and lots of xenomorph action. Nothing incredibly special but definitely competent and it holds your attention.
- asageaspa9 juni 2025Love it!
- makdelart4 februari 2026‘Let's copy a bit from the first one, a bit from the second one, and finally we'll throw in that weirdo. What? It doesn't make sense? Never mind, the kids will buy it.’
- Scott14 december 2024You never truly know what you had until it’s gone. I think this was a fun one-off so you can see how scrambly the face huggers are but it’s a roller coaster ride with none of the provocative and expansive lore of the Prometheus side of the franchise. Which has its warts but offered a more interesting path forward for the franchise. Loved the chunky, crunchy, sci-fi buttons and gizmos though.
- sti5329 januari 2026"I can't lie about your chances, but you have my sympathies." This flick was pretty unengaging from just a few minutes with yapping, annoying teenagers with various different British accents. The only interesting character was Andy to be honest. It had it's moments of suspense, but it was all wasted with stupid decisions and the horrible ending.
- Harish Cousal27 december 2025A sharp return to claustrophobic terror. Modern polish meets classic dread — proper Alien energy
- Clarence Boddicker16 december 2025Sorry, but this isn't a great movie... Let alone Alien movie. It's just a conglomerate of all of the first 4 parts. One cannot live from memorable quotes and Ash alone..
- Dan Dease8 december 2025Decent thriller. Follows the franchise line with new blood. Worth a watch if you like the Alien-verse.
